Information literacy is a set of abilities and skills for critical reception, assessment and use of information for personal and professional development. In the age of information where one risks being flooded with information this literacy is indispensable.

In 2004-2005, the IFAP Bureau approved a sub-regional project on the development of information literacy education through school libraries to be implemented by CI. The project brought together seven countries, namely: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. Researchers and librarians from these countries examined the state of information literacy education in their respective countries, shared their findings and put forward a set of recommendations to promote further development of information literacy education.
CI is preparing a project proposal based on the recommendations of the participants to attract funding for the next phase of information literacy development in some or all of the seven participant countries.
At the end of the project, CI published a project report distributed along with a CD-ROM of the proceedings from the second workshop held in Bangkok in September 2005.

CI collaborates with the Department of Library and Information Science and the Central Library of Srinakharinwirot University (Prasarnmit) to train librarians for information literacy.
A training workshop will be organized from 13 to 16 October 2008 to enhance literacy skills of 40 public and school librarians attached to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Invited to the workshop are policy makers and managers of the libraries concerned. The first part of the programme will help them to understand the concept and the importance of information literacy.
During the workshop the participants will break into groups of 3-4 to develop training materials for their chosen topics.
Upon completion of the workshop, an information literacy manual will be produced for interested librarians. Group work will be included as ready-to-use lessons.
