Regional Committees

Regional committees of the Memory of the World are a critical part of the cooperative structures of the Programme, which bring together people from two or more countries. Based on geographic and/or other parameters such as shared cultures and interests, the regional committee could be allied.

Regional committees provide a means of addressing issues and a mechanism for cooperation and complementation beyond the national level.

The terms of reference, membership and accreditation of a regional committee would be a matter for discussion between the Secretariat and intending members because there is no standard model. If there is an appropriate regional office of UNESCO for the committee, they can provide accreditation.

Based on geography with shared history and culture beyond national boundaries, three regional committees are in operation:

- MOWCAP Asia Pacific

- MOWLAC Latin America-Caribbean

- ARCMOW Africa
