What Happens to a Ship after It Sinks?

A shipwreck site does not look the same as it did on the day it sank.

Human interventions and natural forces acting on a shipwreck change its shape by stages. The transformation of the shipwreck can be affected by the geography and topography of the place where it is wrecked and the type of seabed that it is deposited on.

What is left of a ship after it undergoes environmental changes, chemical and biological transformations and, in some cases, excavations, is what archaeologists have to study.
