Stone Building of Prieto Diaz Central School, Gubat

Although its history is not precisely known, the stone building of the Prieto Diaz Central School in Gubat probably dates back to the Spanish colonial period. The structure was once an escuela pia, or charity school, instructing the parishioners in basic grammar and Christian doctrine, amalgamated into the Central School during the American period. The construction is of traditional plastered rubble, with coral stones, lime mortar, and molasses used as an additional binder. In an extreme state of disrepair after the typhoons of 2006, the building has been restored by the GMA Kapuso Foundation and once more functions as a schoolhouse.
