Tang Family Chapel, Hoi An

The Tang Family Chapel is located within the Hoi An World Heritage Property. It is typical of eighteenth and nineteenth-century overseas Chinese clan halls, with a succession of smaller entry halls leading to a large central hall for ancestor worship. The Tang family emigrated from Fujian Province during the eighteenth century, with descendants reaching a number of high-level positions in the Vietnamese bureaucracy. May of the interior wooden fittings had decayed over the years, as had the structure of the roof. The Chapel is still in use by the Tang Clan as a place of worship, serving a double purpose as a tourist attraction within the context of the Old Town of Hoi An.
