Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region 2007: Preservation and Restoration of Wooden Structures

The month-long course consisted of formal lectures on wooden architecture in Japan and Asia, survey methods, approaches to conservation and maintenance, design and implementation of conservation projects, management and utilization of wooden structures, and risk preparedness for cultural heritage. The course was held at the Asia/Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU) Nara office from 18 September to 19 October 2007.

Participants had the opportunity to attend practical training and on-site lectures at local historic wooden structure conservation project sites. The course also included a threeday study tour to visit historic wooden structures and towns. Participants were exposed to some of the oldest and finest wooden architecture which are on the World Heritage List in the Nara area. They made presentations on conservation of wooden heritage projects in their countries, shared their experiences and discussed issues of common interest.

CollAsia 2010: Traditional Knowledge and Scientific Principles of Conservation

In conjunction with the SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SEAMEO-SPAFA), UNESCO, the Department of Museums and Archaeology (Ministry of Information and Culture), Lao PDR and the Lao National Museum in Vientiane, ICCROM will organize an intensive course to improve scientific literacy and establish a common language for sharing conservation knowledge among professionals caring for Southeast Asian heritage collections. The course will review, discuss and compare living cultural practices and current conservation principles and approaches. The course will consist of interactive, participatory sessions, both theoretical and practical. Candidates from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam are invited to apply to this course. ICCROM Course Announcement: Architectural Records, Inventories and Information Systems for Conservation

ICCROM is pleased to announce that the training course on Architectural Records, Inventories and Information Systems for Conservation - ARIS07 will be held in Rome from 12 September - 12 October 2007. This course is offered by ICCROM and the Getty Conservation Institute. The Course aims to improve architectural conservation practice through the use of methods and tools of recording, documentation, inventories and information management.
