This panel discussion on "Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Support of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD): Opportunities and Challenges" will be jointly convened by the International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNESCO-UNEVOC) Bonn, and the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), Thailand Ministry of Education. The panel will be chaired by Siripan Choomnoom and moderated by Rupert Maclean. Rupert Maclean will briefly outline TVET and SD initiatives with reference to higher education and the role of the corporate sector, then four panellists will then present papers on the topic. The short discussion-starter presentations will be followed by a Q&A and discussion session during which participants will be encouraged to discuss and map what is happening in the field within their respective countries for yet a broader perspective on TVET in support of ESD. Particular emphasis will be placed on presenting an interpretation of SD from the country perspective, and outlining key initiatives being undertaken through education to support and strengthen TVET and SD. In addition, key issues will be presented with an emphasis on the role of TVET, higher education and training in capitalizing on the opportunities to overcome the challenges.
