Secretary-General, National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO
Alisher Ikramov is the Secretary-General of the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO. A key accomplishment in his term as Secretary-General is the UNESCO ASPnet Prize, "Peace In Our Hands", received in 2001 by the National Commission in recognition of contributions made to the promotion of education in favour of a culture of peace, non-violence and international understanding. Prior to assuming his position with the National Commission, Mr. Ikramov was the Adviser to the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan in Diplomatic Training. Previously, he was a Researcher in Mathematics and Computer Sciences and then became a Senior Lecturer in Natural Science and Applications and the Head of Division for International Affairs of the Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy. Mr. Ikramov is the author of numerous journal articles and papers relating to education and human rights and is a member of various boards and councils, including the Intergovernmental Council on the MOST Programme of UNESCO and the Standing Committee for the APEID Programme of UNESCO.
