IUCN-UNESCO Session on Monitoring
Bangkok (Thailand)
20 November 2004
UNESCO and IUCN agreed to develop a joint proposal, through close partnership, for a three year project which engages stakeholders in selected countries in a process of defining ESD indicators. A national framework of indicators is to be constructed that could be used as a planning tool as well as for monitoring and evaluation purposes. It would help establish progress and map achievements in ESD over the period of the Decade at the national level. This framework and the process to develop it, would be shared through UNESCO, IUCN and other networks as a basis for other countries to assess their work.
The project was launched in Bangkok at the IUCN World Congress by the Director UNESCO Bangkok – Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education and the IUCN CEC Chair and the IUCN Asia Regional Office at a Platform on the UN Decade, November 20th 2005.
