Asia-Pacific Regional Consultative Group for the DESD

The Asia-Pacific Regional Consultative Group for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) will facilitate the process of ongoing stakeholder dialogue for the DESD. The Group will interface with the Asia-Pacific Regional UN Interagency Steering Committee for the DESD.

Specifically, the Consultative Group will:

  • Liaise with the Regional Steering Committee for the DESD to inform the overall guidance of the Decade.
  • Perform a knowledge management function by facilitating two-way stakeholder dialogue, information sharing and networking.
  • Assist in activating regional networks and projects for ESD, within the framework of the International Implementation Scheme.
  • Participate in the qualitative evaluation and monitoring process of ESD in the region.
  • Assist in defining indicators of progress and assessing those indicators.
  • Provide transparency and governance for the entire DESD programme in the region.
  • Liaise with other stakeholders with interests in ESD including, but not limited to, academic institutions, NGOs, relevant government departments, intergovernmental bodies, donor agencies and civil society.

The Asia-Pacific Consultative Group will consist of a select group of experts  leading/initiating the facilitation of networks, projects and other initiatives. These experts will represent the interests of different parts of the region as well as different sectors. An annual meeting will be convened between the Consultative Group and the Asia-Pacific Regional UN Interagency Steering Committee for the DESD.
