Purpose and target audience
Purpose
This website was set up to provide information about the many activities, achievements, and publications of the "ICT in Education" programme, which is being implemented by UNESCO Bangkok with the support of Japanese Funds-in-Trust.
Aside from information about the UNESCO ICT in Education programme and its outputs, this website has links to other projects and activities which promote effective use of ICT in education. Furthermore, this website provides country-specific information and examples of how information and communication technologies are being integrated into education systems in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
Target audience
The target audience includes:
- Education policy makers and planners - who decide how to make ICT a central component of education systems, and formulate concrete policies and guidelines on the systematic and effective use of ICT in various aspects of the education programme. These users also need to measure and monitor change that occurs as a result of better use of ICT in education.
- Education managers, supervisors and school administrators - who provide the necessary administrative and logistical support to ensure that ICT is being introduced, maintained and utilised effectively, in classrooms and in non-formal education, and who need to know and apply elements or indicators that account for successful use of ICT in education.
- Trainers and staff development teams - who provide the necessary training to develop the knowledge and skills of policy makers, administrators, teachers, curriculum and educational software developers, as well as non-formal education functionaries, in the planning, management, and use of ICT in education.
- Curriculum and educational software/materials developers - who develop software and other ICT-based materials required in teaching, training and learning through ICT and who need to know the most effective techniques and modalities to ensure real integration of technology into teaching and learning.
- Teachers and non-formal educators - who require support in terms of knowledge and skills-building in the use of technology in teaching and in materials development. And who need to access a variety of resources to assist them as they teach and prepare lessons utilising ICT.
- Education researchers and evaluators - who need to measure the impact of the use of ICT in education, specifically on: the achievement of various goals in promoting educational reform; the general improvement of the quality of education; the changes in knowledge and skills of teachers; and the development of a new cadre of students equipped to face the challenges of a new information society.
- Non-formal education and development workers - who need to tap into a wealth of resources in order to reach marginalized groups, while developing the learners' skills in harnessing ICT to bring about improvements in terms of their livelihoods and quality of life.
- Anyone involved in planning, organising, or implementing an ICT project - who needs background data and up-to-date information on ICT use in education, as well as best practices and the issues that countries, decision-makers, teachers and others have to deal with when integrating ICT into education.
