ICT Applications for Non-Formal Education

This project aims to improve quality of life and alleviate poverty among disadvantaged rural populations through greater access to context-specific education programmes using ICT.

The "ICT Applications for Non-Formal Education" project explores effective  ICT use in non-formal education (NFE), delivered through Community Learning Centres (CLCs).

The project aims to support community empowerment. A key component of the project is the compilation and delivery of relevant NFE resource materials - both in print form and through ICT (DVD, CD-ROM, online, etc).

The project also aims to encourage information sharing and evidence based policy dialogues at the national and regional levels.

In the first phase of the project, 2003 – 2004, five countries participated, namely, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Uzbekistan.  The second phase, which commenced in June 2004, includes China, India, Iran, Philippines and Viet Nam.
