Toolkit: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the UNESCO ICT in Education Toolkit for?
The “UNESCO ICT in Education Toolkit for Policy Makers, Planners and Practitioners” was developed in response to recommendations by high-level decision makers in the Asia-Pacific region, who saw the need for a systematic approach to integrating the use of ICT into education.
The idea was to have a Toolkit that can be utilized in a range of scenarios, which contains relevant information, and which is usable by Ministries of Education, international organizations and researchers when determining a course of action with regard to the use of ICT in education.
The objective of the Toolkit is to effectively guide policy makers through the planning process. Through a “facilitation team”, the Toolkit proposes options and scenarios to decision makers.
Can we use it now?
The Toolkit is available for use but it is advisable to wait for the latest version which will be released in March 2007. Since version 1.0 came out in September 2005, the Toolkit has been utilized by 151 education planners and decision makers, who have attended the four Toolkit training workshops held so far.
From these workshops, several suggestions for further improving the Toolkit have been received. This extremely useful feedback is being taken into consideration in the design of the next version, 2.0b.
What is next?
This year (2007) the ICT in Education Unit of UNESCO Bangkok will be conducting further workshops to train education planners in the effective use of the “UNESCO ICT in Education Toolkit”.
All Ministries of Education in the Asia-Pacific region interested in learning to use the Toolkit and implementing a systematic approach to planning the use of ICT in education, are encouraged to signify their interest in attending a workshop. UNESCO will consider all requests according to degree of interest and urgency, and vis-à-vis financial feasibility.
