In the presentation Training Needs Analysis, consultant expert Ian Robertson defined, explained the benefits and described the steps involved in undertaking a Training Needs Analysis as following:

  • Clarify the goal
  • Identify the target group
  • Identify the skill set required
  • Determine the current skill level
  • Determine the skill level required
  • Determine the skill gap
  • Develop a Training Plan including dates, training strategy and resources required.


Participants then developed goals for which the training needs analysis would be conducted. In summary, the general nature of the goals were defined by the countries as being:

  • Infrastructure development
  • Human resource development
  • Managers
  • Teacher trainers
  • Curriculum developers
  • School management systems
  • Website development

 

These outcomes related to both departments of TVE in relevant countries as well as TVE institutes.
Participants were then invited to continue to use the Training Needs Analysis Template to identify skills required, current skill level, skill gap (as detailed below) and to draft (as far as possible) a training plan. These TNAs will be later fleshed out when participants return to their countries.
