Workshop shares lessons learned from the SchoolNet project

Participants at the SchoolNet "Sharing Lessons Learned" Workshop.

The “Sharing Lessons Learned” workshop was convened in Bangkok, Thailand, from 26 to 28 June, as part of the UNESCO SchoolNet project.

This workshop provided an opportunity for participants in the UNESCO SchoolNet project to explore and exchange the knowledge they have gained over the past three years.

The UNESCO SchoolNet project began in 2003 with the aim of establishing and building SchoolNets in the ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) region. Activities have included training teachers in the innovative use of ICT in teaching and in the creation of teaching and learning materials using ICT. Teachers have also been trained in telecollaboration and Learning Circles activities.

The project, which is supported by Japanese-Funds-in-Trust and the ASEAN Foundation, has enabled teachers from participating schools in the ASEAN region to gain knowledge and experience in a range of areas. This final workshop enabled the sharing of the experiences and the lessons the teachers learned as a result of their participation in the project.

The workshop also reviewed and evaluate the overall achievements of the project; presented and discussed the results of the Learning Circles activities and the evaluation survey; demonstrated a prototype of the regional SchoolNet; and discussed and developed strategies for ensuring the sustainability of SchoolNet activities.

The experiences of participating teachers were compiled at the workshop and these experiences will be published in the third and final edition of the SchoolNet “Lessons Learned” series, thereby enabling educators and policy makers across the Asia-Pacific region to learn from these experiences.

Representatives from eight of the ten countries that make up the ASEAN group, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam, participated in this workshop. Participants included SchoolNet national coordinators and managers, participating teachers, Learning Circles coordinators, and representatives from the Thailand National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC).
