7 - 11 May 2007, Hanoi, Viet Nam

From 7 to 11 May 2007, UNESCO convened the eighth workshop in a series of national-level workshops being held in the Asia-Pacific region as part of the "Training and Professional Development of Teachers and Other Facilitators for Effective Use of ICT in Improving Teaching and Learning" (ICT in Teacher Training) project.

In cooperation with Hanoi National University of Education, the Bangkok and Hanoi UNESCO offices held this workshop with the aim of raising the capacity of teacher educators in Viet Nam to utilize ICT effectively in the classroom. This five-day workshop brought together 30 participants from universities and teacher training colleges across Viet Nam.

Participants at the workshop learned about ICT resources and tools for enhancing teaching and learning; multi-modal methods for facilitating learning; and competency-based standards. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to participate in learner-centred training activities and gain skills in learner-centred pedagogy.

At the workshop, participants were also able to learn about various ICT-in-Education projects being implemented in Viet Nam, from representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Labour, and other organizations involved in implementing projects.

As the UNESCO ICT in Teacher Training project is a regional one, with workshops held in many countries, the training materials are produced in English. However, in order to ensure that all trainees can participate fully in the workshop, materials are translated from English into the local language. In Viet Nam, they were translated into Vietnamese. Translators were also used during the workshop where necessary.
