28 May - 1 June 2007, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

From 28 May to 1 June, UNESCO convened the ninth workshop in a series of national-level workshops being held in the Asia-Pacific region as part of the "Training and Professional Development of Teachers and Other Facilitators for Effective Use of ICT in Improving Teaching and Learning" (ICT in Teacher Training) project.

Convened in Ulaanbaatar, in cooperation with the Mongolia National Commission for UNESCO and the Mongolia State University of Education, this workshop brought together around 30 teacher educators from across the country. Participants came from Teacher Education Institutes in the northern, western and central parts of Mongolia, located in Ulaanbaatar province, Bayan-Uglii province and Arkhangai respectively.

Participants at the workshop learned about ICT resources and tools for enhancing teaching and learning; multi-modal methods for facilitating learning; and competency-based standards. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to participate in learner-centred training activities and gain skills in learner-centred pedagogy.

At the workshop, participants were also able to learn about various ICT-in-Education projects being implemented in Mongolia, from representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and other organizations involved in implementing projects.

As the UNESCO ICT in Teacher Training project is a regional one, with workshops held in many countries, the training materials are produced in English. However, in order to ensure that all trainees can participate fully in the workshop, materials are translated from English into the local language. In Mongolia, they were translated into mongol khel (Mongolian language). Translators were also used during the workshop where necessary.
