SETDA Toolkit – Best Practices in Implementing Technology within Education
The Department of Education and the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) in the USA released a toolkit in April 2003 to help states implement the technology requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. The toolkit includes resources and best practices on: 1) scientifically based research; 2) technology literacy assessment; 3) common data elements; 4) effective teaching using technology; and 5) the national education technology plan.
Palm Applications in Education Database
Highlighting examples of best practice in integrating applications for the Palm OS platform into curriculum, this database shares the real experiences of experienced teachers. Each month new application reviews are added to the database, including an overall summary and ranking of each application, ways to start the project and companion applications. The database is run and managed by the Concord Consortium, a non-profit educational research and development organization, dedicated to the development of innovative educational tools and their distribution worldwide.

Electronic Journal for the Integration of Technology in Education
Featuring research findings, practical articles on technology integration, book and software reviews, and commentary on topics of interest to educators (PK-16), this journal’s online format allows for the inclusion of multimedia elements such as images, sound files, and video clips. The refereed journal is produced by a team of graduate students in the Educational Leadership programme, as a part of their Instructional Technology doctoral classes.
NetDay Cyber Security Kit for Schools
The "NetDay Cyber Security Kit for Schools" offers free tools and resources to raise awareness among K-12 educators, students and families about online safety and computer security. SchoolWeb is an affordable technology which enables students in remote or urban areas to benefit from predictable, simultaneous delivery of Internet and e-Learning content at high speeds. Written in Linux, it is configured in a single HP Proliant Server that services a school efficiently. The SchoolWeb software features a firewall, a file server, an email server, a web server and storage, while every student is provided with email, webmail and web page.
Schoolforge: open source tools in education
Schoolforge seeks to unify independent organisations that advocate, use and develop open resources for primary and secondary education, empowering member organisations "to make open educational resources more effective, efficient, and ubiquitous by enhancing communication, sharing resources, and increasing the transparency of development". Members of the project advocate the use of open source and free software, open texts and lessons, and open curricula for the advancement of education.
Microsoft Classroom Teacher Network
The Microsoft Classroom Teacher Network website contains a wealth of resources aimed at helping teachers use computers to enhance their teaching activities. Included is a database of lessons plans, examples of exciting projects for teachers and students, tips on integrating Microsoft Office into specific school subjects, best practices, case studies, teaching suggestions and ideas as well as reference materials for using various Microsoft products.

Weblogg-ed, the brainchild of Will Richardson, a teacher at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington, NJ, provides valuable information for anyone interested in using weblogs in education. The site provides useful ideas for using weblogs in the classroom, as well as a platform for teachers to network in the weblogging community, reflecting on their teaching. This website is for teachers and students across the middle years of schooling.
