Assessment tools for ICT in education
Many tools now exist for measuring the impact of ICT in Education, in the forms of online questionnaires, printable forms, charts and frameworks. Respondents are similarly diverse: teachers, administrative staff, educational leaders or even the students themselves. Often self-assessment based tools assess staff skills in technology, levels of ICT integration into lessons, student improvement due to ICT use and attitudes, amongst other issues.
In summary and to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of each tool, the following chart has been taken from the article Take a Varied Approach to Assessment by Barbara Bray.
Here are some useful examples of the types of assessment other organizations have used:
- An Educator's Guide to Evaluating the Use of Technology in Schools and Classrooms - Geared towards educators or administrators with little or no research experience, this guide is intended for use at the district or school level, including examples of technology surveys.
- Educational Technology Integration Evaluating the Impact of Technology on Teaching and Learning - Starting information, sample tools and sample reports for assessing technology plans.
- Technology Literacy Challenge Grant Program Evaluation Instrument - Although this instrument was developed for a specific application, it contains principles of good practice and evaluation strategies designed to encourage reflection on planning to increase project impact.
- Education Leadership Tool Kit -This toolkit is a collection of tips and pointers, articles, case studies and other resources for education leaders addressing issues around technology and education, such as planning, policy, and curriculum and community involvement.
- Technology in American Schools: Seven Dimensions for Gauging Progress - A framework outlining the conditions that should be in place for technology to be used to its greatest educational advantage in any classroom.
- MCCSC Technology Assessment - A multi-faceted assessment to determine professional development interests and needs, develop a descriptive summary of technology skills and usage, identify a cadre of individuals willing to train other staff and inventory technology in use.
