Development and Use of Indicators of ICTs in Education for the Baltic and CIS Countries

Objectives

  • Strengthening ICT application potential for national education capacity building
  • Identifying the needs of UNESCO Member States for the development of a long-term project
  • Examination of state-of-the-art, needs and perspectives of ICT usage in the project field
  • Familiarising specialists from UNESCO Member States with the possibilities of ICT usage in the field project area
  • Preparation and testing of a set of teaching/learning materials to conduct IITE training activities in the project field
  • Training educators from UNESCO Member States in modern methods of ICT usage in a particular field of educational activity

  • Official documents in IT/ICTs in secondary education
  • Available state curriculum on IT
  • ICT usage to support other subjects implied in their curricula
  • Availability of computers
  • The average number of students per computer
  • Percentage of IBM- and Apple-compatible computers
  • Percentage of schools equipped with one or more multimedia system
  • Percentage of schools equipped with local network
  • Percentage of computers with installed OS DOS, Windows, Apple Macintosh and other kinds of educational software
  • Percentage of software designed by the specialists within the country and that of foreign specialists
  • Percentage of computers connected to the internet, with e-mail or with own web pages
  • Percentage of teachers who have undertaken the computer literacy course from September 1999
  • Computer skills of teachers
