Survey of ICT in Schools 2001 - DfES United Kingdom
Objectives
To work towards the targets for 2002 that underpin the Government's National Grid for Learning (NGfL) programme, namely:
- Connecting all schools, colleges, universities, public libraries and as many community centers as possible to the grid.
- Ensuring that serving teachers feel confident and competent to teach using ICTs within the curriculum and that school librarians are similarly trained
- Enabling school leavers to have a good understanding of ICT, with measures in place for assessing their competence in it
- Making Britain a centre of excellence in the development of networked software content and a world leader in the export of learning services
Scope
- Primary and secondary education and special schools in England
Methods Used for Data Collection
- Questionnaire to 785 primary schools, 753 secondary schools and 330 special schools
Indicators Used
- Number and type of computers available in schools
- Expenditure on ICTs
- The extent and benefit of ICT use across the curriculum
- Use of the internet and other electronic communications links
- Teacher usage of computers
- Teacher confidence in using ICTs in the curriculum
- Computer/pupil ratio
- Connectivity to the net
- Percentage of schools with their own website
