• Science and Technology Master Plan Part 2, 6 - Education

The Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology (MCTS) in the Maldives is responsible for ICT policy formulation, ICT management, strategic ICT planning, formulating ICT standards and improving public sector service delivery through ICT. The Ministry has developed a Science and Technology Master Plan which gives priority to issues such as:

• formulating a national ICT policy and strategies;
• developing an action plan for the Government Network of Maldives (GNM) to connect all the public sector organisations in the capital Male’;
• forming a National Computer Center as a support structure for GNM;
• overseeing the implementation of ICT policy;
• defining ICT standards; and
• establishing community owned telecentres.

The National Computer Centre (NCC) will play a central role, working with government agencies and the private sector to ensure that information technology policies, strategies and programmes are consistent with national development priorities and requirements.
