Workshop at UNESCO Bangkok

25 July 2005

Following a preliminary Strategy Meeting held in Bangkok on 13 June, 2005, UNESCO Bangkok hosted a workshop for the project: “Education for Natural Disaster Preparedness in Asia-Pacific in the context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)” on 25 July, 2005 in Bangkok. The workshop was a forum for the coordination and exchanging of information between key stakeholders involved in disaster reduction education in Thailand and the region.

During the workshop, an overview of the project and ESD was presented by UNESCO Bangkok. Efforts and ideas towards disaster prevention and mitigation, particularly in relation to the UNESCO project were outlined during the Workshop.

Following this first part of the workshop, participants contributed to the development of the project in three discussion sessions moderated by a number of experts in disaster prevention, recognition and preparedness.

The sessions focussed on the following key issues for the project:

  • Best disaster preparedness materials in Asia-Pacific region

Afternoon Session Part 1

  • Necessary resources (human/financial) and clarify commitment - who can bring what to the project?
