<p><font color="#33711E"><strong>Education for Natural Disaster Preparedness in Asia-Pacific in the context of ESD</strong></font></p>
Workshop in New Delhi

Following a preliminary Strategy Meeting and Workshop held in Bangkok on 13 June and 25 July, 2005 respectively, UNESCO Bangkok and New Delhi hosted a workshop for the project: Education for Natural Disaster Preparedness in Asia-Pacific in the context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) on 12 – 13 September, 2005 in New Delhi, India.
The workshop was a forum for the coordination and exchange of information between key stakeholders involved in disaster reduction education in a number of South Asian countries including: India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Efforts and ideas towards disaster prevention and mitigation, particularly in relation to the UNESCO project were outlined during the Workshop.
The participants contributed to the development of the project in three discussion sessions that focused on the following key issues for the project:
Discussion Session 1
- What natural disasters will this project address?
- Best disaster preparedness materials in Asia-Pacific region
Discussion Session 2
- Project beneficiaries – where are the largest gaps?
- Necessary resources (human/financial) and clarify commitment – who can bring what to the project?
Discussion Session 3
- Role of actors, organizations and experts engaged in the project
- How is the project sustainable? – consideration of actions and future plans
