To draw attention to skills development for the world of work, this month’s newsletter is looking at issues related to graduates’ job preparedness in the United States and achievements in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Afghanistan. Despite significant socio-economic differences between these two countries, both of them are grappling with the same question - how to ensure employability of young people? To capture learning for employability, UNESCO Bangkok is pleased to announce a TVET photo competition which aims to show the changing face of education and training in the Asia-Pacific region. » Getting Serious about Career Readiness
Are high school graduates “career-ready”? In the Asia-Pacific, where many education systems focus on high-stakes exams, the question of whether students graduate ready for the world of work is pertinent. Robert Schwartz of Harvard University shares experiences from USA.

» Afghanistan National TVET Strategy Established
Afghanistan, a country balancing internal security and socio- economic development, sets TVET as a national priority to move the country forward. UNESCO’s TVET expert, Leon Gaskin, shares his perspectives on issues related to TVET in Afghanistan.

» TVET Photo Competition, Deadline for Submission: 31 May 2015
Professional and amateur photographers are invited to capture moments illustrating "how does skills development look in the Asia- Pacific region?” The winner will get a chance to attend the upcoming regional TVET conference in Malaysia on 3-5 August 2015.

» Upcoming World Education Forum in Incheon 
The World Education Forum (WEF) is taking place on 19-22 May 2015 in Republic of Korea. It will be an opportunity for the international education community to chart the way for the implementation of the post-2015 education agenda through a Framework for Action.

» Workshop: Alignment of Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment
The NEQMAP Secretariat will organize its third capacity development workshop, focusing on alignment issues between curriculum, teaching and assessment, in collaboration with the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation on 18-20 May in Seoul.

» 2015 ERI-NET Expert Meeting on Phase III Study
"How are teachers prepared and supported to facilitate acquisition of transversal competencies?" will be the focus of ERI-NET’s School Education Group Phase III research study; the ERI-NET Experts Meeting concluded on 20-21 April in Bangkok.

» Call for Nominations: UNESCO - Japan Prize on ESD
The newly launched UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) -- to honor outstanding efforts of individuals, institutions, organizations or other entities engaged in ESD activities -- is now open for nominations until 31 May 2015.
