Education Policy Matters!

November 2015 was another month full of remarkable activities and incidents, started with the adoption of the Framework for Actions for Education 2030 at the high level meeting alongside the 38th UNESCO General Conference early in the month, followed by the commemoration of UNESCO's 70th anniversary with mourning for the tragedy incidents in Paris challenging its mandate in peace building in the middle of the month. More specific to our region, among others, was the 1st Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED2030) near the end of the month where representatives from member states and development partners agreed on the next steps for immediate actions on education development in 2016.  Hope to keep you informed.

» APMED2030 Outcome Document, Next Steps: Actions for 2016
At the end of the Asia-pacific Meeting on Education 2030, an outcome document was endorsed with a general consensus that SDG 4’s focus on lifelong learning; and the engagement of and coordination among various sectors and ministries, civil society, and a wide range of actors and stakeholders at all levels were needed. 

» APMED2030 puts Asia-Pacific on Road to Education 2030
The massive work to unpack the Education 2030 agenda in Asia-Pacific has begun as governments, civil society, UN agencies, development banks and other partners have agreed to take immediate steps to implement it in the region. 

» Showcasing Best Practices to Achieve SDG 4
As a side activity during the Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030, participating organizations and countries were invited to join UNESCO in exhibition under the theme: “Showcasing Best Practices and Strengthening Partnerships to Achieve SDG 4.”

» NEQMAP' 3rd steering Group and Annual Meeting
The Network on Education Quality Monitoring in the Asia Pacific (NEQMAP) will organize the 3rd Steering Group and Annual Meeting of on 9-11 December 2015 to discuss current and future NEQMAP activities and network matters (e.g. communication, membership).

» Study on “Assessment of Transversal Competencies”
The Network on Education Quality Monitoring in the Asia-Pacific recently launched a regional study on “Assessment of Transversal Competencies in the Asia Pacific” with an orientation meeting for researchers from the countries/jurisdictions participating in the study. 

» Nepal: How Should We Assess Student Learning? 
UNESCO Bangkok and UNESCO Kathmandu jointly organized a workshop to explore how using well-crafted performance assessments can powerfully affect teachers and learning in Nepal.

» UNESCO and World Leaders’ Rally against Violence
World leaders joined UNESCO to mark the 70th anniversary of UNESCO and took part in mourning for the victims of the terrorist attacks that struck the French capital on 13 November.
