Access
Most countries in the Asia-Pacific region are aiming to move beyond universal primary education to increase and widen young people’s access to secondary education. While significant progress has been made in enrolments at the secondary level in the past decade, further expanding access to secondary education, including at the upper secondary level—is a challenge for some countries, in particular for low-income countries. Expanding access requires identifying barriers to schooling both in terms of supply of and demand for education services as well as strategies to overcome existing disparities caused by various factors, which may include socio-economic, gender and geographic disadvantages.
