Director, International Bureau of Education, UNESCO

Dr. Clementina Acedo is the Director of the International Bureau of Education of UNESCO. Prior to assuming this position, Dr. Acedo was the Co-Director of the Institute for International Studies in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously she worked as the National Director of a UNDP Social Development Programme in Venezuela, then as Researcher, International Consultant and Professor at a Research and Public Policy Institute (Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración-IESA) in Caracas, and as Education Specialist at the World Bank. Dr. Acedo has extensive experience in organizing, administering and doing research and has participated in several international projects dealing with internationalizing education and curricula in the context of new models of school, university and community co-operation. She holds a Licenciatura en Sociologia from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Venezuela, and three academic degrees, including a PhD in International Comparative Education, from Stanford University.
