HIV/AIDS Animated Maps
One of the most innovative initiatives of the Social Sentinel Surveillance Project lays in the HIV/AIDS animated maps, which depict the dramatic progression of the epidemic in Thailand. Using data from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health and GIS technology, the sequential map series begins in 1989 and takes the reader year by year through the infection’s spread up to 2003. This concept breaks down the distribution of AIDS cases by age, sex, occupation and risk factors and allows for an easy study of trends.
