Minority Language Radio Drama Against HIV/AIDS, Trafficking and Drugs
Under this project component, UNESCO develops a series of radio programmes and audiotapes aimed to educate target audiences of ethnic minority youth and young women on issues of HIV/AIDS, trafficking and drug abuse.
The primary programming format is a 'soap opera', using themes based on actual experiences and real life stories, which are relevant to the lives of the targetted audience.
In order to reach wide audiences of ethnic minorities, UNESCO collaborates with broadcasting stations with established listener-bases of minorities, local research institutions and ethnic minority authors and communities to develop culturally appropriate programmes and broadcast them in minority languages.
Since 2004, dramas have been produced in 13 minority languages: Naxi, Wa, Jingpo, Lahu, Akha, Shan, Tai Neua, Yi, Tai Lue, Hmong, Kmhmu, Brao, and Kreung.
These radio programmes are produced, using UNESCO 12-Step Methodology. Click here to view the methodology.
