  • National Policy on ICT in School Education 2009
    The National Policy on Education 1986, as modified in 1992, stressed upon employing educational technology to improve the quality of education. The policy statement led to two major centrally sponsored schemes, namely, Educational Technology (ET) and Computer Literacy and Studies in Schools (CLASS) paving the way for a more comprehensive centrally sponsored scheme – Information and Communication Technology at Schools.

  • Towards a National Policy on ICT in School Education in India
    The Department of School Education & Literacy (D/SE&L), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, along with Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative (GeSCI), has initiated a consultative process to formulate the ‘National Policy on ICT in School Education’ to address the needs and challenges of teaching and learning in the 21st century using technology tools.

  • Perspectives on ICT in Education in India
    The global knowledge economy is transforming the demands of the labor market throughout the world. Developing countries and countries with transition economies risk being further marginalised in a competitive global knowledge economy because their education and training systems are not equipping learners with the skills they need. To respond to the problem, policymakers need to make fundamental changes. They need to replace the information-based, teacher-directed learning provided within a formal education system governed by directives with a new type of interactive learning that emphasizes creating, applying, analyzing, and synthesizing knowledge and engaging in collaborative learning throughout the lifespan.

  • Education for all in India
    Free and compulsory education to all children up to the age fourteen is constitutional commitment in India. The Parliament of India has recently passed Right to Education Act through which education has become fundamental right of all children between the ages of 6-14.

  • Survey of ICT for Education in India and South Asia
    Despite a growing number of ICT for education (ICT4E) initiatives in South Asia, there was no up-to-date and comprehensive information about the sector. To fill this gap, infoDev commissioned a survey of ICT4E in India and South Asia. The result includes country-level studies, sub-national reports for five Indian states, two detailed essays on distance education and teacher training in Pakistan, and five thematic essays on cross-cutting issues.

  • ENO-Environment Online
    ENO-Environment Online is a global virtual school where environmental data is shared with both participants and the global community.   • Government CIC Project in North-East India
    Under this project CICs are in the process of being set up in schools, colleges and government buildings. In order to ensure uninterrupted communication, the Centres are connected through a satellite based computer communication network. Each CIC is equipped with a VSAT, computer systems, printers and networking equipment. Many of the CICs receive over a 100 visitors every week who use e-mail facilities, word processing applications, browse the Web, attend Training sessions and generally improve their familiarity with computers and awareness of IT.
