Nepal is a land locked country, bordering India to the east, south and west and China to the north. The total population of the country is approximately 29.9 million people with an annual population growth rate of around 1.8% (World Bank n.d.(a)). The country is remarkably diverse in terms of geography, wildlife, population distribution, ethnicity, culture and language. The country is one of the poorest in the world, despite the availability of abundant natural resources including water resources, forest, mountains, flora and fauna, medicinal plants and extraordinary climatic diversity (UNESCO 2008).
