  • Radio Education for Afghan Children (REACH) To reach children in Afghanistan who have been deprived of normal schooling by almost 20 years of warfare and Taliban restrictions, the BBC World service launched this radio series in July, 2001. The radio programmes are not a replacement for school, as they do not teach, but rather get children to learn by themselves, by awakening their curiosity and helping them question the world.
  • Education Unwired  In this inspiring article, the author argues that Afghan and Iraqi children can show the world how to learn in new ways. The war-torn nations of Afghanistan and Iraq should not only be "reconstructed," as implying building again the same institutions as were there before. Rather, these countries now have the opportunity to lead the world in venues of wireless connectivity. Two positive factors that wireless broadband connectivity will quickly introduce into the two countries are highlighted: learning content and literacy.
