Capacity Building for EFA Planning and Implementation
Building and developing national institutional capacities to plan and manage education systems is crucial for achieving the Education for All and the Millennium Development Goals. The Education Policy and Reform (EPR) Unit works closely with national and international partners at both central and decentralized level to support capacity building and development in modernization of education sector planning and management. Secondary Education Policy Research
UNESCO Bangkok's regional Secondary Education Policy Research project seeks to contribute to the development of a regional resource base on secondary education by providing policy relevant information and research to help countries to undertake policy analysis and to formulate secondary education reforms. The project is implemented over a four year period (2005-2008) and is co-financed by UNESCO and the Japanese Government. [more]
Education Planning and Financing Portal
The Portal is designed for professionals to share information and expertise on practices of implementing sector policies in:
(i) national contexts, related to ongoing reform of public sector management, at central
and decentralized levels, and
(ii) international contexts, related to the implementation of Education for All, Fast Track
Initiatives, and the Millennium Development Goals. [more]
Comparative Studies on Student Loans Schemes
UNESCO Bangkok's regional comparative study on student loans schemes in Asia contributes to increasing the knowledge base on student loans schemes available to governments and provides practical insights for national education policy. The project was implemented over a four year period (2001-2004) in association with the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP). [more]
This was a follow-up to the Educaton for All (EFA) 2000 Assessment, in which satisfactory data on adult literacy could not be obtained in some countries e.g. Lao PDR. In 2001, the Ministry of Education of Lao PDR explored the possibility of conducting a nationwide survey with support of its partners, UNESCO and UNICEF. Consequently, UNESCO Bangkok agreed to provide technical guidance and financial support for the survey; UNICEF Vientiane in addition committed financial resources in support of the Ministry's undertaking.
