4-7 May 2009
Bangkok, Thailand

From 4 to 7 May, national EFA coordinators and delegations from 31 countries, including representatives from Central Asia involved in education met to prepare sub-regional and regional strategies towards Reaching the Unreached in Education and Meeting the EFA Goals by 2015. Focus was given to regional coordination, regional support and capacity development, institutionalizing EFA monitoring and evaluation, and country processes.

Countries and EFA partners also discussed lessons learned from the EFA Mid-Decade Assessment along with a proposal to evaluate the whole EFA MDA process to ensure that the next assessments will gain from the lessons and good practices of the MDA.

The UIS-AIMS Unit, which is the UIS Regional Office, on behalf of the UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education was primarily responsible for organizing this conference, in close collaboration with the Regional TWG on EFA which is co-chaired by UNICEF.

This conference was made possible with funding support from UNESCO Bangkok and the EFA Global Monitoring Report. Additional support to participants from specific countries was also provided by the UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Office.
