UNESCO Bangkok welcomes applications from interns as part of its ongoing effort to offer graduate and post-graduate students an opportunity to enhance their academic knowledge through practical assignments.  Volunteers are offered similar hands-on experience, but are not required to be enrolled in a full-time programme of studies.  In return for their contribution, UNESCO Bangkok benefits from the assistance of talented and qualified interns/volunteers, specializing in a variety of professional and technical fields.  We cannot, however, offer any remuneration or expectation of employment.

Internships and volunteer assignments at UNESCO Bangkok can last up to six months and are subject to the conditions in the annex to the application form.  You may also wish to consult the more detailed information about the UNESCO programme throughout this site, as well as practical advice on living in Bangkok (see sidebar or click here).

Before applying, a few words on « what to expect » from your internship at UNESCO Bangkok – as it is helpful to have realistic expectations about what you would be doing (or perhaps more to the point, not doing).  For example, you would not be directing archaeological excavations, developing full-fledged policies in education, or carrying out extensive research based on direct observations in the field – although you might be contributing to all of these areas as part of a much larger team.  Nor would you be provided with a large and comfortable office (complete with private secretary) and a full-time tutor/advisor, or sent on extensive missions.  Instead you would be integrated into the work of the office as a junior member of a project team, where your learning would be largely on-the-job training at the office within UNESCO’s much broader mandate.  Experience has shown that the most successful interns are those that come without unrealistic expectations of adventure, glamour, prestige, or pedagogy.

If you are interested in an internship or volunteer assignment at UNESCO Bangkok, please complete and submit a signed hard copy of the application form, along with a covering letter and passport-size photo to:

A copy of your CV is not necessary as all information is included in the application form, but to simplify the internal circulation of your application, we would also request that you submit an electronic version of the form and your covering letter to adm(at)unescobkk.org .  Given the large number of applications, please understand that only candidates under serious consideration will be contacted.
