UNESCO Bangkok offers an on-the-job training opportunity for graduate and post-graduate students worldwide to enhance their academic experience through practical work assignments as a part of the internship and volunteer programme.

Subject to submission of the application form, internship or volunteer assignments can last up to six months and are not required to enroll full-time. Interns and volunteers are incorporated in the work as junior team members under the supervision of unit chiefs.

Please be advised that internship opportunities are undertaken on a voluntary basis. UNESCO does not have funding to cover international airfare to Bangkok, living stipend or consultancy fees. Remuneration and employment expectation are not offered.

Communication and Information Unit

CI welcomes interns, who are interested in communication and information sector, to assist in the implementation of activities. The unit's tasks involves communication development, freedom of expression, democracy and peace, information society, media and information literacy and Memory of the World.

Interns should be enrolled in a post-graduate degree programme or hold a degree in a field relevant to communication, information, advertising and media (journalism, broadcasting, radio, web, social media, information science, media laws). The internship period is between 3-6 months.

Applications will be screened by Advisor for CI in Asia on a rolling basis.

Education Units

The education sector at UNESCO Bangkok consists of six units (APEID, APPEAL, ESD, EPR, HP2 and UIS-AIMS) working to implement activities related to education diverse disciplines. Education Units welcome interns to assist the implementation of activities. 

The Education Policy and Reform (EPR) Unit welcomes interns to learn about UNESCO’s programmes in the area of education policy planning and management. Before applying, please also read EPR's Internship Terms of Reference to be familar with the requirements. 

Applications will be screened by the Chief of the EPR Unit every three months.

Culture Unit

Regional Unit for Culture in Asia and the Pacific welcomes interns to learn about UNESCO’s programmes in the Culture sector, and to assist in the implementation of activities. 

Interns are expected to be enrolled in a post-graduate degree programme or hold a post-graduate degree in a field relevant to the Culture sector. A minimum term of six months is required. 

Applications will be screened by Chief of the Regional Unit for Culture in Asia and the Pacific on a rolling basis.

Social and Human Sciences Unit

RUSHSAP welcomes interns to learn about UNESCO’s programmes in social and human sciences, and to assist in the implementation of activities. RUSHSAP covers a very broad scope of activities, and maintains high scholarly standards linking research to policy making.

Interns may be enrolled in an advanced undergraduate or post-graduate degree programme or hold a degree. The term is usually 3-6 months. Also welcomed to the unit are visiting professors, researchers, government officials, and other partners.

Applications will be screened by the Regional Adviser for Social and Human Sciences in Asia and the Pacific.
