Education 2030 one year on: Where we are and where we need to go

Second Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED2030 II) aims to set roadmap to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 in region and build network to achieve it

It has been more than a year since the international community agreed to the transformative vision for education outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 4, which calls on all countries to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030.

The SDG 4-Education 2030 Agenda is much more ambitious in scope – and will require a substantially higher investment in resources – than the goals of the Education for All era that preceded it. As such, maintaining early momentum is essential to its success and so is a roadmap to ensure that all countries are on track and committed to reaching all of SDG 4’s targets.

These are the main aims of the second Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED2030 II) being organized by UNESCO Bangkok, the Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, as well as UNICEF’s East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) and Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA), with support from the Government of Japan.

APMED2030 II will aim to encourage agreement on an implementation roadmap for SDG4-Education 2030 as well as to establish a regional network of national coordinators who will drive this plan forward.

WHO: Up to 200 participants from more than 30 countries, including education ministers and ministry representatives, civil society organizations focused on education, development partners, UN agency representatives, donors and researchers.
