The Fourth Youth Peace Ambassador Training Workshop, 24 - 31 March 2012, Hiroshima, Japan

25.01.2012

Call for applications

We invite young persons (preferably aged 16-25 years of age, e.g. high school and university students) from your school to participate in Youth Peace Conference in Hiroshima, 24 - 31 March 2012. This event will consist of a youth conference for peace, from 24 to 28 March, and a UNESCO Youth Peace Ambassador Training Workshop, from 29 to 31 March. The first two days of the event will take place in Hiroshima, where participants will be engaged in some joint activities with youth from around the world, including visiting the peace museum, talking to atomic bomb survivors, and learning about the city.

On the 25th, all participants, including those who live in Hiroshima will move to Etajima, an island about 30 minutes from Hiroshima. There, we will stay and work together on the theme “Building Communities Peace by Peace.”

The conference will be similar to a Model United Nations (MUN) conference, but participants will be assigned problems and will represent stakeholders, such as the government, companies, NGO’s, different countries, etc. The participants will be trained by UN and other professionals on how to discuss problems, devise solutions, and write action plans. One unique aspect of this conference is training by experts working within the UN system who train diplomats as a career. This training will assist and inspire participants whether they hope to become diplomats or work for the UN or an NGO.

The last three days will be devoted to a UNESCO Youth Peace Ambassador Workshop. Participants will identify real peace-related problems in their communities and create a practical implementable action plan and commit themselves to implementing it when they return home. Those who successfully implement their action plans will receive the official title of UNESCO Youth Peace Ambassador.

The fee for the entire event will be approximately 18,000 yen for high school students (around 235 USD) 20,000 yen for adults (around 260 USD). This includes group meals and accommodation. Meals during free time or taken separately will be at the participant’s expense, as will private accommodation outside the group facility. Participants with special needs should contact the organizers for additional information. Also, participants will be expected to pay for all of their own travel expenses.

If you are at all interested in this conference, please complete the  Registration Form and send it to henryjiang88@gmail.com. Hope to see you in Hiroshima in March!
