EFA Goal 4: Youth and adult literacy (Asia-Pacific End of Decade Notes on Education for All)

19.11.2012

The Asia-Pacific End of Decade Note on Education for All: Goal 4 – Youth and adult literacy covers EFA goal 4: “Achieving a 50 per cent improvement in the levels of adult literacy by 2015, especially for women, and equitable access to basic and continuing education for all adults.”

The Asia-Pacific End of Decade Notes (EDN) present a review of regional and national progress toward the six EFA goals, take stock of the progress, persisting issues and remaining challenges in achieving the goals, and highlight examples of innovative policy reforms and strategies, particularly those aimed at reducing disparities in access to and quality of education. The EDN also emphasize the policy, capacity and governance gaps to be addressed in order to achieve EFA goals in the region. The six reports build on the findings of the Asia-Pacific EFA Mid-Decade Assessment (2006–2008), which examined EFA progress and gaps at the mid-way point of the 2000–2010 decade. Following the recent EDN on Goal 1, this is the second report in the EDN series that is published. The remaining four reports will follow in the coming months.
