EFA Goal 5: Gender Equality (Asia-Pacific End of Decade Notes on Education for All)

14.01.2013

The Asia-Pacific End of Decade Note on Education for All: Goal 5 – Gender Equality covers EFA goal 5: “Eliminating gender disparities in primary and secondary education by 2005, and achieving gender equality in education by 2015, with a focus on ensuring girls’ full and equal access to and achievement in basic education of good quality.”

The Asia-Pacific End of Decade Notes (EDN)is a series of joint UNESCO-UNICEF publications that present a review of regional and national progress toward the six EFA goals, take stock of the progress, persisting issues and remaining challenges in achieving the goals, and highlight examples of innovative policy reforms and strategies, particularly those aimed at reducing disparities in access to and quality of education. The EDNs also emphasize the policy, capacity and governance gaps to be addressed in order to achieve EFA goals in the region. The six reports build on the findings of the Asia-Pacific EFA Mid-Decade Assessment (2006–2008), which examined EFA progress and gaps at the mid-way point of the 2000–2010 decade.
