RUSHSAP PROJECTS FOR 2006-2007
This was conducted in close coordination between ASEAN and SHS HQ, and RUSHSAP with support from Jakarta office. Attendance by government officials and experts especially from the ASEAN region, and UNESCO experts from the other world regions. 70 participants. Report and draft recommendations available upon request.
Summary report available in English / Thai language (MS Word documents). This joint workshop between RUSHSAP and UNICEF was held in UNESCO Bangkok. A cross-section of Thai stakeholders (50 persons) participated – Thai academics, government officials, diplomats, National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) members and representatives of teachers’ organizations, student groups and civil society organizations.
Twin Chairs Project
Intersectorial collaboration between SHS and CULTURE for the establishment of two UNESCO Chairs for Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia, in Penang, and Prince of Songkhla University in Had Yai, Thailand. Chairs expected to be approved in 2007 by UNESCO.
International Culture of Peace: Voice of Youth
Strengthening Partnership among Academic and Development Institutions: New Dimensions of Social, Cultural and Economic Cooperation in the Upper Greater Mekong Sub-region, 16-18 February 2006. Venue: Chiangrai Rajabhat University, Chiangrai, Thailand.
International Day of Peace “International Culture of Peace: Voice of Youth”, 21 November 2006. UNESCO, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), organized activities in celebration of the United Nations (postponed from 21 September 2006 due to the coup on 19 September) in Bangkok. The activities aimed at cultivating the spirit of peaceful living among youth based in the region.
EARLIER PROJECTS
Sowing the Seeds of Peace in the Mekong Region
Culture of Peace and Youth activities in Thailand, with partners including Assumption University, in Mekong countries, were held since 2001. There was a sub-regional youth workshop in 13-18 November, 2003 in Bangkok. The Sowing Seeds of Peace in the Mekong Project was conducted in 2004-2006, in collaboration between RUSHSAP and Assumption University, Thailand, and numerous partner institutions in six countries (meetings, concerts and activities held in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Yunnan province, China). A DVD was released, and many prizes were awarded in return for poems, paintings, art, etc. Follow-up is in the United for Peace and Human Security in Asia and the Pacific project.
