2004 UNESCO Heritage Conservation Award Announced
Bangkok, 5 November 2003
– Entries are now being accepted for the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. The awards programme, in its fifth year, recognizes the achievement of individuals and organizations within the private sector, and public-private initiatives, in successfully restoring structures of heritage value in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

 

2004 UNESCO Heritage Conservation Awards Judging
Bangkok, 29 June 2004
– Entries for the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation have now closed and judging will take place between 19 and 2 July.

 

 

Baltit Fort (Karimabad, Hunza, Pakistan) Awarded Top Prize in the UNESCO 2004 Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards
Bangkok, 1 September 2004

The UNESCO Regional Advisor for Culture in Asia and the Pacific announced today that Baltit Fort (in Karimabad village in the Hunza region of Pakistan) has been honoured with the Award of Excellence in the UNESCO 2004 Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation. The three Awards of Distinction went to Lakhpat Gurudwara (Lakhpat village in the state of Gujarat in India); St Ascension Cathedral (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Mullewa, Australia). Five Awards of Merit and eight
Honourable Mention prizes were also announced today.

 

 

Female Orphan School Wins Honorable Mention Prize in the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards
Bangkok, 1 October 2004 -
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will recognize the outstanding restoration of the Female Orphan School at a ceremony to be held on 7 October 2004 at the site. The conservation of this significant 19thcentury building was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2004 annual UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards.

 

 

Suzhou River Warehouse Honourable Mention Prize in the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards
Bangkok, 20 October 2004 -
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will recognize the innovative conservation and adaptation of Suzhou River Warehouse at a ceremony to be held on 30 October 2004 at the site. The pioneering restoration of this archetypical warehouse on Suzhou River was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2004 annual UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards.

 

 

Tak Seng On Pawnshop Wins Honourable Mention Prize in the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards
Bangkok, 21 October 2004
- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will recognize the unique restoration of Tak Seng On Pawnshop at a ceremony to be held on 25 October 2004 at the site. The conservation of the heritage building was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2004 annual UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards.

Vietnamese Traditional Folkhouses Win Award of Merit in the 2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards
Bangkok, 24 January 2005 - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will recognize the unique restoration of six Vietnamese Traditional Folkhouses at a ceremony to be held on 31 January 2005 at the National Museum of Vietnamese History at 9:30 am. The project, which successfully preserved several typologies of vernacular timber buildings, was awarded an Award of Merit in the 2004 annual UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards programme.
