Post-Conflict/Post-Disaster Responses

UNESCO has been a proactive organization in providing an educational response in emergencies for post-conflict or post-disaster and reconstruction settings.
In support of the Dakar World Education Forum in 2000, the organization stresses the importance of meeting “the needs of education systems affected by conflict, natural calamities and instability and conduct[ing] educational programmes in ways that promotes mutual understanding, peace and tolerance, and that help to prevent violence and conflict”, which calls for national Education for All plans to include provisions for emergency situations. UNESCO is involved in Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Education Cluster discussions from the beginning in partnership for humanitarian assistance.
