UNESCO Calendar 2007 for Promoting Gender Equality in Education
Midway to 2015: Are we getting closer ot our goal?
In 2006, UNESCO Bangkok held the first photo contest among countries that are part of the Gender in Education Network in Asia-Pacific (GENIA). The main criteria for the entries were to capture gender equality in action and to show how stereotypical roles of girls and boys, women and men are being challenged in schools, homes and communities here in our region.
As the world prepared for the mid-term review of progress in EFA, there was still much work to be done to achieve the goal of eliminating gender disparities in primary and secondary education and achieving gender equality in education. It is hoped that through these images people can be reminded of the importance of this goal and what it entails, with a vision of what this may look like.
