NEAR-GOOS Activities carried out during May 2008 - May 2010


The available amount and types of data increased with the real-time and delayed mode database network operated and timely updated in each member state.

The RDMDB (Regional Delayed Mode Database) and RRTDB (Regional Real Time Database) have been operated respectively by JODC and JMA of JAPAN since 1996. And the available amount and types of data have been increased continuously during the intercessional period, which currently contains 43 different types of data files at the end of 2009 (Table 1), and the total volume of oceanographic/marine and meteorological data available on RDMDB exceeds 65GB. 40 types of data have been transferred from RRTDB with others from Japan Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department, Tohoku University and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The total volume of the data available on RDMDB has increased by about 18GB during the past 18 months, compared to that at the end of March 2008.

The total access numbers have been at constant level around 8000 a year since 2006. The access numbers to the English and Japanese in 2009 was counted maximum number of 5700 in the past years. About 12,500 files and 31GB data were downloaded from RDMDB in 2009. Fig.1 shows the annual variation of access number to the RDMDB top pages in Japanese and English.
