IOC/WESTPAC Training Course on Ocean Models, Qingdao, China, 10-16 June 2011
In May 2010, the UNESCO/IOC Regional Training and Research Center on Ocean Dynamics and Climate (ODC) was established during the Eighth Intergovernmental Session of UNESCO/IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC-VIII) in Bali, Indonesia. The Agreement was co-signed by Dr. Wendy Watson-Wright, Executive Secretary of IOC and Assistant Director General of UNESCO, and Prof. Deyi Ma, Director General of the host institute, the First Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration (FIO, SOA) of P. R. China.
This training course, considered as the formally starting-up of this ODC center, is designed to comprehensively introduce ocean circulation models and wave-circulation coupled theory. The training will include ocean circulation models, ecosystem models and sediment models, data assimilation and wave-tide-circulation coupled processes. Experienced experts on ocean numerical model from different countries will serve as lecturers of this training course. The trainees are expected to improve their understanding on ocean circulation models, ecosystem models, sediment models and wave-circulation coupled process, enhance their ability in handling ocean models.
The training course will be conducted in English during June 10-16, 2011, following the 3rd International Workshop on Modeling the Ocean during June 6-9, 2011 (IWMO-2011, http://www.fio.org.cn/iwmo2011/) in Qingdao, China.
