2014 is the 20th anniversary of World Teachers’ Day

UNESCO and its partners are preparing for the 20th anniversary of World Teachers’ Day, 5 October 2014. Which commemorates the adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendations concerning the Status of Teachers.  We come to you to ask for your help in encouraging local activities and to spread the word, in order to promote these activities via www.worldteachersday.org map.

This year, at UNESCO House there will be a two-day forum (Monday 6 - Tuesday 7 October, 2014) bringing together teachers, researchers, experts (including UNESCO Chairs and university professors), students (teacher training institution, Education Sciences), representatives from teacher training institutes, education and teacher organizations, specialized media.

The open forum “Teaching today” aims to provide as much discussion between speakers and participants as possible.  The forum will include four parallel participative workshops: Teachers’ living and working conditions, Teachers’ continuous professional development, How ICT can support teacher training, Pedagogical innovations in education.

At the end of the two-day open forum there will be a prize giving ceremony for the UNESCO-Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers and a concert by Toumani and Sidiki Diabate.

The events at UNESCO House, Paris will be webcast from 10 :30 a.m. -12 :30 p.m. (conference « Teachers for the 21st century ») and at 3:00-4 :30 p.m.  (conclusions of the workshops) on 7 October (Paris time).  For those in Paris who wish to attend the events at UNESCO House please go to http://on.unesco.org/jme2014
