Learning Assessments
Assessments and quality assurance systems help countries identify and assess strengths, challenges and the status of their education systems. Many countries in the region have adopted national/sub-national learning assessments and many are in the early stages of developing such systems. In addition, countries are increasingly participating in international assessments such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Programme for International Student Assessments (PISA) and the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Involvement in these international assessments, along with national/sub-national assessment systems, helps countries identify what students know, what students can do with their knowledge and how best to address deficiencies.
