Thailand is located in the center of Southeast Asia.  It shares borders with Myanmar to the west, Lao PDR to the north and northeast, Cambodia to the east, and Malaysia in the south.  With an estimated population of 69.1 million as of 2010, it is the 20th largest country in the world in terms of population and the fourth largest in Southeast Asia.  Its population density of 135 persons per square kilometer is considered moderate, particularly for Asia. Thailand has a long coastline along both the Pacific Ocean (Gulf of Siam) and Indian Ocean (Andaman Sea) and has many islands, which contribute to Thailand’s rapidly growing tourist industry.
